I attended an INSPIRE taster day in primary care in 2019. During that day, I was fortunate to meet members of the primary care research group. I also met Academic GP Dr Joanne Butterworth, who shared her work on shared decision-making with me and opportunities for me to get involved in primary care research.

After my taster day, Dr Butterworth supported me in developing a research project proposal on shared decision-making. She later supervised me in conducting this project as part of my MSc Clinical Education degree. With Dr Butterworth’s support, I was successfully awarded the Wolfson Foundation Intercalated Degree Award and received a small grant from the Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME).
I graduated from medical school in 2022 and have been working as an academic foundation doctor. This has enabled me to develop my interests in medical education, whilst contributing to some gynaecology research. I am hoping to continue developing my research skills through undertaking an academic clinical fellowship in the future.
My research project was also published in BJGP https://bjgp.org/content/73/729/e310
